We at the Shanti Club are thrilled to share some exciting updates with you! Our latest session on how to survive middle school was a great success, and our students had a fantastic time. We covered three big topics: time management, note-taking, and study tips. Here’s a closer look at what we did:
We started by talking about the importance of time management. We discussed how it can help reduce stress, improve productivity, and lead to better outcomes. To put theory into practice, we played a fun game where we split into groups and challenged each other to organize a set of cards in the fastest time possible. The strategies used were discussed, and we talked about how planning can help get things done faster.
For note-taking, we delved into the different methods, including the Cornell and Blurt methods. We talked about the pros and cons of each method and gave students a chance to try them out. We also discussed the importance of taking effective notes and how it can help with retention and understanding.
Next, we discussed study tips. We introduced the Feynman Technique and Mind Mapping as effective ways to study for exams. The students were excited to put these methods to the test through a game we designed. Everyone was given instructions to remember and write down for the next round. We found that writing down the instructions helped the students remember what to do.
To wrap up the session, we had three high schoolers come in and answer questions the students had about middle and high school. The high schoolers shared their experiences and gave valuable insights into what to expect in the coming years.
